Kristalnacht- German pogram 1938
Die Kristallnacht was a pogrom in Germany and Austria on the night of November 9 1938. It was directed towards Jewish citizens throughout the country. Synagogues, Jewish businesses and homes were damaged or destroyed. It became known as the “The Night of Broken Glass” in English due to the mass amounts of shattered store-front windows that covered the German streets. This was the first time Jews were arrested in mass numbers and transported to Nazi concentration camps. Kristallnacht culminated the escalating violence against Jews that began during the incorporation of Austria into the Reich in March 1938 and marked the beginning of the Holocaust.
